Make Snoop Call Stank Mouths

Through this site you can make Snoop call anyone to let them know their breath is kickin'. It's kind of funny. Especially if it's your co-worker sitting next to you. By the way, Mr. Wrigley, I've never tried Orbit gum and I'm not going to proactively try it because of this ad. But thanks for the laugh.Link

Buck 65 - Language Arts Part 7 (free download)

Buck 65 - Language Arts Part 7 via buck65.com I guess Buck65 does remember about rappin' and making beats. He just made Language Arts Part 7 available for free download on his website. It's on the same vein as the earlier projects in the series but seems slightly more lo-fi. I guess 'cause he's less concerned about having to push it as an official album in the future, an album which he is already working on. He also released a new single called Temporarily In Love and a short documentary via Itunes Canada which I have yet to peep. But I have listened to this mixtape on some crappy headphones and I have to say, it's soundin' pretty freakin' great. buck65.com, article, side 1.mp3, side 2.mp3
Strong Arm is a "mixtape" in the New York-style underground hip hop sense of the word... with a twist. None of the instrumentals are from hip hop records. The music comes from the worlds of punk, classical, folk, library music, everywhere else. It was recorded in a day on a budget of $0 and it shows. This is a scrappy piece of work. There are loud vinyl pops, mistakes, vocal glitches... In other words, it's very lo-fi. Considering the patch-work, collage-style assembly and that everything was done by me, by hand, in my bedroom, I'm calling this Language Arts Part 7. The music runs down like this: Side One: -Intro (music: This Heat - Horizontal Hold) -Dang! (music: Incredible Bongo Band - Let There Be Drums) -Hole In The Road (music: Dub Specialist (Coxone Dodd) - Rastaman Version) -What Grace Means (music: John Fahey - Sunflower River Blues) -Don't Belong (music: Trans Am - Firepoker) -Suspect feat. Claire Berest (music: Sebastien Tellier - Trilogie Femme) Side Two: -Brace Yourself (words: Rev. Sister Mary Nelson - Judgement) -F.O.S. (music: The Homosexuals - Snapshots of Nairobi) -Old-Time Stuff (music: Gorecki - Olden Style Pieces II from the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) -B&W and Read All-Over (music: David Wescott - Passage Of The Red Sea) -Full Blown (music: Six Finger Satellite - Pulling A Train) -Cutthroat (music: Broadcast - Microtronics 02) -The Old One-Two (music: Flowers/Morgan - Activity Three) A few other notes... - I think something like Hole In The Road puts this project into it's proper context. Most people trace the roots of hip hop to Jamaica and the DJ who "toasted" over b-side dub versions of singles. That's exactly what this is. It's a following of that older tradition that pre-dates hip hop as we know it now. - What Grace Means is a song for my new niece. It's just for her. - Suspect features Claire reading a nursery rhyme that comes from a Canadian children's book (from the Sixties, I think) called Garbage Delight by Dennis Lee. A classic... * WARNING - F.O.S. is an exorcism and contains strong language! - The little spoken word clip at the beginning of The Ole One-Two comes from a Charles Bukowski recording. Enjoy. Buck

Darc Mind via Anticon Records

Darc Mind via Anticon Records Haven't heard the name Darc Mind for years. Last time probably was when I bought the Soul In The Hole soundtrack and I asked my friend, who the f*ck is Darc Mind? I think the producer, X-Ray, still runs mindbenda records. Peep the excerpt from the press release for more background. anticon.com Download Darc Mind - Outside Looking In
Recorded from '95 to '97 for Loud/RCA (before Loud's ignoble fall from grace), Darc Mind's Symptomatic of a Greater Ill is a record almost without comparison in the history of NY rap. One could, at perhaps too great a length, detail Kevroc's powerfully unique sense of timing, his nearly instrumental phrasing, and the density of his lyrics, the strange words he cobbles together and lets off in bursts in a voice that's the lowest, Moses-fresh-from-the-mountaintop rumble. Like a shadowy take on DITC at its prime, a treasure chest of horns, vibes, and pianos are taken in, ruggedly reworked, and laid in with full-bodied basslines and chopped drum breaks. Darc Mind's DJ/Producer GM Webb D (aka X-Ray) released his first rap record in '89, and in Symptomatic’s span, one can almost hear rap's history and its future being willfully crosscut and interlaced.

Pondering Rap Without Cristal

Somewhat amusing satirical piece on what rap will be like without Cristal. I for one hope the boycott is a success. It would be a great show of power. Link
“It’s a real problem,” said the Yale musicology doctoral student. “The tripod that hip-hop music stands on is bling-bling, Cristal and women who are sexually attracted to guys with anger management issues. So by removing Cristal, you’ve essentially crippled 33.3 percent of rap music.”

Remember Buck65?

Buck65 @ Mt. Uniacke Hey, remember that guy Richard Terfry who used to rap about stuff and make his own beats? I kind of remember him too. His old town, Mount Uniacke, just gave him a key to the community. I wonder if he remembers what if feels like to rap about stuff over dope beats instead of trying to be a fancy musician.

Afro Samurai Soundtrack Being Handled By RZA

Afro Samurai Afro Samurai is a new animated series that will premiere on SpikeTV this fall. It's based on a graphic novel by Takashi Okazaki, which revolves around a black samurai's hunt for the gunman who murdered his father. Rza has jumped on the project to handle the soundtrack. Nice. Blue Sky Black Death & Holocaust?

When's the last time you heard Holocaust rappin'? He had some of my favorite verses on the Bobby Digital album and on the second Killarmy album. I thought he was gone for good but I guess not. The rumour is he's working on a full length with producers Blue Sky Black Death aka Kingston and Young God. Haven't got much background on these cats save for the album they dropped recently on Mush. Track listing is interesting, might be worth picking up. Link
article highlights: "Holocaust, a member of the extended Wu-Tang family (his upcoming album is produced entirely by BSBD), flows for north of six minutes on “I Catch Fire,” prodded into extracting every last fiery string of lunacy that’s built up in his time of absence." "That such heights can be reached at the hands of two prodigies working from their bedroom predicts an accessible new day for hip-hop, steeped in collaboration and experimentation." 1. SKIES OPEN 2. DAYS ARE YEARS 3. CHLOROFORM 4. NOT HERE 5. THEY CAME AROUND 6. DREAM OF DYING 7. FROM SUN'S ANGLE 8. RAP CREATURE LAND 9. HEROIN FOR GOD 10. GUILTY ONES 11. THE DEAD TREE GIVES NO SHELTER 12. STILL ASLEEP 13. ENGAGE MY WORDS (FEATURING JUS ALLAH, WISE INTELLIGENT AND SABAC RED) 14. STREET LEGENDS (FEATURING A-PLUS AND PEP LOVE) (MP3) 15. FLOOR CHALK (BEST REPRISE) (FEATURING GURU AND CHIEF KAMACHI) 16. SCRIPTURES (FEATURING LIL' SCI) 17. LONG DIVISION (FEATURING ROB SONIC) 18. I CATCH FIRE (FEATURING HOLOCAUST) (RM snippet) 19.
